Instant cameras are enjoying a resurgence. Fujifilm’s Instax camera is nearly always out of stock as users stock up on some retro tech. Now German manufacturer Leica are getting in on the action with the Sofort, an instant camera that uses the same Fuji Instax film as every other retro shooter available these days. The Sofort comes with several shooting modes, including Macro, Auto, Part, People, and a few others. There’s an obligatory selfie option and the bonus is that your prints are ready right away. Plus, you’re using a Leica. As with just about any Leica, you’re going to be paying a premium for your camera hardware, even relatively speaking. The Sofort is set to drop in November this year, for $300 (R4,250).
South Park: The Fractured But Whole pushed back to 2017
Bad news for South Park fans hoping to get their hands on the newest game this year. Ubisoft has announced that the sequel, The Fractured But Whole, will only be launching in the first part of 2017. There isn’t much of any explanation as to why the game has been stalled but Ubi says that “[t]he development team wants to make sure the game experience meets the high expectations of fans and the additional time will help them achieve this goal.” It worked for The Witcher III, so we’re inclined to give them a spot of leeway here. Expect to see it on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in the first quarter of 2017.
People in the US are not returning their Galaxy Note 7s — yet
By now you must have heard that Samsung is in the midst of a massive recall of the Galaxy Note 7. However, the company seems to have having trouble getting people to let go of their handsets. The recall, which was only officially announced in the States yesterday, has seen just 130,000 of the handsets sold in the US returned since the whole battery-exploding thing started happening. That means that there are roughly 1 million Note 7 phones outstanding in the US alone. It’s possible that the replacements aren’t happening because there are no replacements to hand out. Samsung will only have new handsets in stores from 21 September. We’re not sure how long you can live without your phone but we reckon the prospect of a week without one would be worth the risk of keeping the phone for a lot of users.
Apple’s made a list and they’re checking if you use the headphone jack on the MacBook Pro
Your next MacBook Pro might wind up arriving without a headphone port. Allegedly, anyway. Several users are reporting that Apple is conducting a survey of MacBook Pro users, asking them a whole lot of questions. One that specifically crops up is whether they make use of the headphone port on their notebooks. It looks like the company is conducing a poll to see whether the time is right to switch to Lightning (or full wireless) for their notebook hardware. The move isn’t surprising, given their recent actions with the iPhone 7, but at least they’re checking around first to see whether the MacBook Pro’s heackphone jack is in widespread use. And the survey tells us another thing too — a new model of the MacBook Pro is in the design stages right now.
