And now, 12 minutes of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s Black Sky mission

Going from the past to the future, it’s time to check out a solid 12 minutes of gameplay from Activision’s newest Call of Duty title. As hard as we thought it would be to live up to the excitement built by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘s Black Sky mission is an eye-opener and a half.

Black Sky looks to be Infinite Warfare‘s opening mission (barring some sort of prologue) and gives players a pretty good excuse to go to war once again. A sneak attack (there’s a lot of that going around) on Switzerland drags players, in the shape of Lt. Reyes and his amazing gun (and spaceship) into a conflict with the Settlement Defence Front. There’s probably a lot more context in the final game but at this point it’s a lot of robots, drones, blood, smoke, fire and bullets.

Which shows off a lot of the features incoming. There are some intelligent grenades, multi-slighted weapons which can be swapped through in less than a second, and what looks like a smart shotgun. Seriously, is that gun-sight showing where the shot is going to impact the target?

From there we get a (brief) look at a hacking mechanic, which results in a shipload of exploded robots. Ordering in air-strikes are a breeze and said strikes are quick and efficient. Then Reyes hops into a souped-up fighter just, throttles into orbit and proceeds to blow six shades of hell out of a flying threat up there. The flight combat and controls look slick – we can’t wait to get our hands on those sections. If they can work the ground-to-space transitions into multiplayer, we won’t complain.

Speaking of multiplayer, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare pre-orders will net the Terminal bonus map. Terminal, for those who didn’t spend their lives planting claymores in the plane, is a Modern Warfare 2 map that has been redesigned to fit Infinite Warfare‘s look and feel. This time, Terminal is set in space, with a space-shuttle replacing the plane. Oh well, as long as we can still get to that place… you know the one.
