Get your first look at Telltale’s Batman series, launching 2 August

2 August 2016 is shaping up to be a busy day. Samsung’s supposed to be taking the wraps off the Galaxy Note 7, Microsoft are dropping their 2TB Xbox One S on the world (in places), and now Telltale Games are going to be launching Batman – A Telltale Series on a whole bunch of platforms.

The Bat has been getting a lot of play of late and Telltale’s effort, based on the gameplay world premiere above, looks to maintain the quality of the experiences we’ve had so far (we’re not counting Batman v. Superman). Telltale promises that “…you’ll make discoveries that will shatter Bruce Wayne’s world, and the already fragile stability of a corrupt Gotham City” and the video, which sees a battered Batman being implored by Alfred to take it easier, bears that out.

The initial feel is that of the Christopher Nolan trilogy of films, with the Bat going up against the Falconi crime family while backing Harvey Dent as Bruce Wayne.. Also present are Catwoman (who seems to be romantically involved with the Bat – The Dark Knight Rises, anyone?) and what sounds like the Penguin – though we don’t actually see Cobblepot in the trailer. The accent is about right, though.

If you’ve been under a rock or sleeping off a coma in a blood-spattered hospital ward for the last few years, Telltale is the studio behind the stellar The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series er… series of episodic games. Batman – A Telltale Series looks like it’ll be more of the same high-quality story-based play, with the first instalment launching on PC, PS4, Xbox One, iOS and Android on 2 August this year. A sort-of physical edition, with Part One and a key for the Season Pass, should hit stores in September. If things go according to their usual pattern, we should see a complete physical edition launching once all of the episodes have been released.
