Nissan’s GT-R drone does 0 to 100km/h in just 1.3 seconds

Nissan have decided that they needed a drone that could keep up with their 2017 GT-R. We’re not sure why they’d need something exactly like that but it looks good in a marketing video, okay? Don’t question the marketing materials or you’ll be taken away and shown reality TV until you’ve seen the error of your ways. Ahem… Either way, they’ve created their own GT-R drone, which has a set of capabilities that wouldn’t do disservice to an actual race vehicle. And there’s a reason for that.

First up, the GT-R drone is able to hit 0 to 100km/h in just 1.3 seconds. For a car, that would be eye-opening, for a drone that’s a whole different kind of fast. It’ll also top out at 185km/h, which is a whole lot speedier than the drones we’re used to flying. You’d need special training to handle this one. But whatever, it’s an excuse to see a crazy-fast drone racing a 315km/h Nissan GT-R.

Sadly, there’s no way to get your hands on this custom flying, with its eyeball-searing handling. It’s a once-off, made specifically for Nissan. Nissan got its drone by working with world drone-racing champs Tornado XBlades Racing, who put together a racing unit that is supposed to be flown (extremely fast) using a first-person view. You know, the way drone racing works at the moment. If Nissan wants to get in on this action, we might see the sport exploding into the mainstream sooner rather than later. For now, they’re just making a point about how fast the 2017 Nissan GT-R is.
