The manned Boeing Starliner will only take flight in 2018

We’ll say this for Boeing: They know how to pick a name. SpaceX might have the Dragon capsule (which just came back from space, by the way) but Boeing has the CST-100 Starliner. This is their capsule that will transport humans into space (even if Elon Musk leaves for Mars first). Unfortunately, it’s going to be doing so later than expected. A report from Geekwire says that Boeing will be delaying manned flights until 2018. Unmanned flights are still on track for 2017, said the company, but they’re not going to be firing any human beings into space for a while longer. Honestly, if a company specialising in large engines and thrust says it’s not time to go yet, we’re going to take their word on it.

Make anything a touchscreen with the crowdfunded power of lasers

One day, we will all be touchscreens. Or, at least, everything will be a touchscreen. You can have the future now, according to a new IndieGoGo campaign for something called the Lasertouch. It’s a projector that will turn most flat surfaces into a touchscreen, if you believe the claims made by its creators. An Android interface is projected onto a surface and lasers will tell where you’re poking the virtual display. It looks good but we’re inclined to reserve judgement till we see one in person. If you do decide that a Lasertouch is what you want in your life then you can get a jump on the $650 (R10,000) price by backing it on IndieGogo to the tune of $475 (R7,200).

This is the first trailer for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed motion picture

Assassin’s Creed: The Motion Picture (simply called Assassin’s Creed) has finally had its first trailer release and what we’ve seen actually gives us hope for the movie’s December launch. It has elements of the Ezio series of games in it, as far as visuals go, but the story is set during the Spanish Inquisition (which nobody was expecting, we’re sure) and stars Michael Fassbender as a new protagonist, Callum Lynch and Aquilar the in-Animus ancestor. Just how much Hollywood has managed to mess up remains to be seen but we’re cautiously optimistic for now. Even if the music they’ve picked is terrible. We know that’s just the marketing department playing silly buggers.

Garmin’s new top-end multi-sport watch is the Forerunner 735XT and it wants you to suffer

We know that workouts can be hell. We know that you might wind up suffering but we didn’t realise that you could track that. Garmin’s new Forerunner 735XT will do just that, incorporating a Strava suffer score in addition to metrics for a whole lot of sports. Running is king but there are automatic multi-sport functions, VO2 max, strength and other readouts, the option to have custom faces and an HR monitor – at a price. The overseas cost is $450 (R6,800) without any extras, $500 (R7,600) for a chest-strap bundle and $600 (R9,100) for a swimming and triathlon strap. SA prices aren’t here yet but we’ll let you know as soon as they are. Check out the promo video above in the meantime but mind the dubstep.
