Bloody hell – DOOM multiplayer trailer reveals new demon powers

You might want to look away if you’re about to sit down to eat – DOOM just dropped a new multiplayer trailer, and it’s as gory as ever.

Developer Bethesda is promising a fast-paced and brutally violent multiplayer mode that will borrow from the old school deathmatch modes seen in the original game. Based on the footage, the new DOOM looks like it won’t disappoint.

Things have changed a lot since the first reveal videos, though, with players’ space marine avatars now coloured bright white or blue to represent their team allegiances.

From a distance, it’s almost like Halo‘s Master Chief gibbing and ripping the arms off of USNC Spartan commandos.

The clip also gives us a new glimpse at the arsenal of guns and power-ups on offer.

Expect classics like quad-damage, the rocket launcher and the double barrelled shotgun, as well as new additions – including what looks a lot like a one-hit-kill railgun.

The most exciting addition is the new Demon Rune power-up. Previous reveals showed off the Revenant, a jetpack-wearing skeleton with twin rocket launchers, but that won’t be the only demonic upgrade on offer.

It looks like you’ll be able to transform into a Demon, a hulking brute with lethal melee attacks.

Affectionately called “Pinkie” in previous games, there’s nothing friendly about this guy – he’ll rip your head off or tear you in half if you get too close.

We’ve spotted what looks like an Imp (albeit a much stronger than usual one – possibly even an Arch Vile) and a DOOM II-inspired Mancubus too.

All together, it looks graphic and gory enough that it most definitely won’t be for the faint of heart. We can’t wait.
