Sony’s PlayStation 4 breaches the 30 million units sold barrier

Sony likes having something to crow about and we have to agree with them on this one: passing the 30 million units sold milestone with the PlayStation 4 is something to make noise over. Which is what Sony are doing at the moment, celebrating 30.2 million PS4s sold since its launch in 2013.

PS4 1TBThat’s a worldwide total, as of 22 November this year, presumably incorporating all models and edition of the console itself. The PS4 still has a way to go to bypass the PlayStation 3 and the mighty PlayStation 2 but figures over 150 million units isn’t out of reach for Sony. Might take a while though.

Sony PlayStation CEO Andrew House said “We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago. We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide. Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for game and interactive entertainment innovation.”

A nice sentiment but we’re expecting some competing talk to show up from the Xbox One folks any minute now… In the meantime, well done Sony.
