25 More suburbs getting Telkom fibre this month

Telkom’s open-access fibre network just keeps growing and growing. The operator has announced another 25 areas in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth will have access to fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) by the end of September.

The new areas include Hillcrest in Kimberly; Rayton Ridge and Universitas Ridge in Bloemfontein; Assagay, Ballito Industrial Park, Bothas Hill, Hillcrest |(including Hildene, Langeford Estate and St Helier), Westmead and Mount Edgecombe Country Estate 2 in Durban; Atholl, Bryanston, Dunkeld, Forest Town, Houghton, River Club, Craighall and Hyde Park in Johannesburg; Hazelwood, Menlo Park, Route 21 Corporate Park (Irene) and Waterkloof in Pretoria; Hallack Road in Port Elizabeth; and Atlantic Beach Golf Estate, D’urbanvale, Oude Westhof (Welgemoed) and Van Riebeeckshof (Welgemoed) in Cape Town.

Earlier this month, Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko said the company plans to make fibre available to one million homes by March 2018. Currently, 38,000 South African homes has access, and Telkom aims to grow this number to half a million by the end of next year.

As an emerging market, South Africa can only benefit from the increasing availability of fibre.”
