Will we see a monster Xperia Z5 from Sony in September?

Sony’s recent phone announcements have left something to be desired. The Xperia Z3+ and the Z4 were a little meh but a new report indicates that the Japanese smartphone maker is going to be firing all cannons for the Xperia Z5.

Expected to be revealed in September this year, the Xperia Z5 is thought to arrive toting all the specs, giving our current favourite the Samsung Galaxy S6 a serious run for its money.

That’s quite a bold claim but if the specifications listed for Sony’s next flagship are correct, it’s also an accurate one. The Xperia Z5 will reported arrive bearing a Snapdragon 820, something no other Qualcomm-sporting phone has resorted to. Yet.

There’s also 4GB of RAM and a massive 4,500mAh battery on the cards, which almost seems like overkill for a smartphone. A 21MP Sony Exmor RS camera sensor, with attendant 4K capabilities, will also be in attendance.

Unconfirmed by the report but we’d expect them in a spec-monster like this one would be USB-C, a QHD display and the sort of price tag here at home to make the Galaxy S6 Edge seem almost reasonable by comparison. We’ll know far more in a couple of months, when Sony is expected to announce the Z5 in Japan.
