Fallout 4 is coming, here’s a Boston-shaped, nuclear-themed teaser

It’s finally happened. Bethesda Softworks, the publisher that brought the world Skyrim and Fallout 3, has officially announced that there is a Fallout 4 on the way. Open-world fans everywhere can rejoice, start planning how much time they’re taking off from their lives and make plans to avoid seeing their loved ones for a few weeks.

The announcement, which came by way of a teaser countdown and then a teaser trailer release, confirms a few of the rumours floating around about the title. It’s going to be set in Boston, at least in part, and it will be launching for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

There are a few other things that the trailer tells us. Players will have a canine companion (please call it Dogmeat again Bethesda), the post-apocalyptic world will be more technologically advanced than we’re used to and players will be members of Vault 111.

Otherwise, there’s not a whole lot else we know. The teaser plays a lot like the opening cinematic for Fallout 3, we’ve almost certainly seen the player’s emergence into the wide-open world (though a vertical Vault lock rather than from a cave, as is usual) and there will be some of the same radiation-created beasties, robots and threats in between the cobbled-together civilisation that survived the nuclear attack featured in the video.

This is all based off the trailer released for Fallout 4, of course. Bethesda’s E3 event should be going into a lot more detail when it takes place on 14 June. We’ll have our eyes on that event, and the rest of E3, and will be bringing you all the updates.
