Try your hand at Office 2016 with the new Public Preview

There’ve been a whole lot of preview events from the likes of Microsoft and Apple of late. Microsoft more or less started the trend of pre-testing operating systems just prior to Windows 7 and they’ve since moved over to previewing their other products. The latest? Office 2016, which has just hit Public Preview status.

Office 2016 PreviewBack in March Office 2016 was available in the IT Pro and Developer Preview, now the company is ready to let the less technically-inclined masses in on the action. It’s pretty easy to get into, all you need to do is hit up the Office 2016 Public Preview page and either add it to your Office 365 subscription or download one of the standalone trial products – Redmond’s provided a serial key for the latter.

You will need some technical knowledge but the ability to reinstall your old version of Office from scratch and some troubleshooting skills seems to be the extent of it.

In the upcoming Office version, users will find that real-time collaboration, the ability to edit docs across a range of devices and smarter features are all things. Microsoft’s introducing a feature called Clutter for Outlook, which “…uses machine learning to analyze your email patterns and de-clutter your inbox by moving lower priority messages out of your way and into a new Clutter folder.” Yeah, we could definitely use some of that.
