Resident Evil HD’s nostalgic scares get a release date

It’s been 18 years since Resident Evil, or Biohazard in Japan, first appeared on the PlayStation One and scared the pants off of us with those zombies and especially those bloody dogs and crows. And it’s on its way back, to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, as well as the PC.

Capcom has been teasing the game for a while but we’ve finally got a digital release date for one of the defining survival-horror titles’ re-release.

The European release date, and thus the release date for SA, will be 20 January which plops it right in the middle of the traditional gaming dead-spot for the year. Appropriate. It’s slated to cost around R285 at launch, which isn’t bad for an HD port.

Based on the gameplay we’ve seen so far, not much has been changed with regards to the main gameplay. Resident Evil HD‘s update seems largely cosmetic (and they look to have done a fantastic job on it) but the erratic movement and stationary combat have remained in place. We think it’ll be tough for those who haven’t been exposed to the first game to get used to but old hands will probably have muscle memory (and fear) on their side. Capcom isn’t mean though, you’ll be able to modify the controls a bit but we’re not sure to what extent.
