HTC One M9 could get a 5.5in display

The trend for bigger smartphones doesn’t look set to go away any time soon.

HTC is looking to go big with its upcoming flagship, the HTC One M9, with previous rumours pointing to a 5.2in screen for the successor to the 5in HTC One M8. Now new reports claim that it could be even bigger than that.

HTC NewChinese site MyDrivers has leaked the One M9’s purported spec sheet, claiming that it’ll pack a 5.5in, 2,560 x 1,440 display. That, however, doesn’t tally with IBTimes‘ earlier report that the device would sport a 5.2in screen; though MyDrivers‘ source still sticks to the same 2K display resolution. The One M9 is also tipped to have 3GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 805 chipset, and a 3500mAh battery; claims which match IBTimes‘ previous report.

Interestingly, MyDrivers also claims that the smartphone could feature a 16MP back camera with optical image stabilisation, suggesting that HTC could be canning its UltraPixel camera sensor; which uses fewer, larger pixels for improved low-light performance.

The report also suggests that HTC could be looking for a new audio partner for its smartphone range; most likely Bose, since Apple has purchased Beats Audio. HTC’s One M8 uses its own BoomSound audio enhancer to give its stereo speakers extra punch, so it’s not clear what the value of partnering with an audio brand would be.

Finally, MyDrivers claims that there’s a Prime version of the One M9 in the works too; but aside from the name, details are scanty. We can expect more details to emerge in the run-up to Mobile World Congress in March 2015, so stay tuned.
