Last month we introduced you to the new Hero 4 range of action video cameras from GoPro. Now the company has confirmed pricing for the South African market along with the specs of the new Black, Silver and plain Hero editions of the incredibly popular personal video cameras.

The Hero4 Black, which captures 4K video at 30fps, 2.7K at 50fps or full-HD at 120fps (great for slow-motion) thanks to a souped-up processor, will retail for R7 499. The Hero4 Silver, meanwhile, will set you back R5 999.

GoPro’s also got an entry-level model in its new line-up. Simply called the Hero, it captures Full-HD video at 30fps and 720p video at 60fps. The Hero will retail for R1 999. All three devices will go on sale in South Africa on 15 November.

The company says the Hero4 Black also includes an entirely redesigned audio system that records high fidelity sound with twice the dynamic range of previous models.

The Hero4 Silver delivers the same professional image quality as its more expensive sibling but offers fewer video capture modes. It can record 2.7K video at 30fps, Full-HD at 60fps and 720p footage at 120fps. However, the Silver now includes a built-in touch display to improve ease of use.

While the Hero4 Black can capture 12MP stills at 30fps it’s also now possible to extract single frames from 4K, 30fps footage as 8.3MP stills.

Both of the new units promise speedier Wi-Fi performance and improved power management, but we’ll have to wait and see whether that holds true when we get our hands on the devices for testing.

Users also have a wider range of manual control options available to them, including setting for adjusting colour and sharpness, limiting the range of ISO sensitivities that the camera can use during recording and exposure compensation controls for video and stills capture.

GoPro also says its added new low-light friendly settings for capturing stills and creating time-lapse videos in dark conditions. These include the ability to perform long exposures of up to 30 seconds.

The company has also added a range of new accessories to its line up, including a floating handgrip called The Handler and has refreshed its accompanying mobile application that lets users control their GoPro or view stills or footage from it wirelessly and on the fly.

Now, where did we leave our snowboards?
