It’s Cheetah versus Raptor for the title of fastest robot on Earth

Game of Thrones

It’s not exactly news that there are robots out there are really fast, Boston Dynamics’ Cheetah robot clocks in at about 46 km/h. The Cheetah holds the land-speed record for the fastest running machine on earth, but that will probably change thanks to a dinosaur.

The folks at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), have developed a robot that has the potential to not only faster than the Cheetah, but should be infinitely cooler as well.

Enter KAIST’s Raptor robot, inspired by the velociraptor, which can reach speeds of around 45 km/h (the robot, that is. The raptor… we don’t know). It isn’t faster than the Cheetah yet, but according to the development team, the Raptor should be able to reach higher speeds if they sacrifice some of the robot’s stability. So it seems that the race for the fastest robot on Earth is on, and we can’t but help to be excited.

Check out the vid to see the Raptor in action, and we’ll be sure to keep you up to date if it ever escapes.
