Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami is going to be returning to his very, very scary roots with the upcoming The Evil Within, a horror title from Bethesda Softworks and Tango Gameworks.

Bethesda have given a launch date for the scary and often gory game which, if the newest promotional trailer is accurate, should have gamers checking over their shoulders and jumping at shadows when it lands on 24 October.

The company has also detailed the pre-order bonus for The Evil Within, which is called the Fighting Chance Pack. The pack consists of a collection of in-game items that players will be able to use to take care of enemies (temporarily, by the look of it), upgrade protagonist Detective Sebastian Castellanos’ abilities and health and there’s also a slightly improved shotgun for tight spots when a little firepower is needed. Not that we think any of these will be much comfort in the terror stakes.

The Evil Within will be launching on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
