Vodacom posts year-end financial results, revenue and customers up

Mobile service provider Vodacom has posted preliminary financial results for the year ending 31 March 2014, showing growth across revenue and active subscribers compared to last year.

The company overall increased its revenue by 8.3%, according to information provided by Vodacom, while the company as a whole now boasts 57.5 million customers, an increase over the year of 7 million users.

In South Africa-specific terms, the company increased service revenues by 0.3%. The slight increase is still an improvement over last year, where service revenues dipped for Vodacom. Subscribers here is SA increased by 8%, reaching a total of 31.5 million users.

Vodacom has pointed out some numbers for their network in the report, of particular interest is the increase in data traffic over the year which climbed by 80.4% compared to last year. At present there are 7.8 million smartphones and tablets on Vodacom’s network, though there’s no indication whether these are only devices that have been sold though Vodacom specifically.

Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub said in a statement “Looking forward, we intend to increase capital investment by around 20% to approximately R13 billion in the new financial year as part of our massive investment programme. This will be informed by the final outcome of the MTR process. By building on our leading network position, we can accelerate growth and unlock new opportunities.”
