Camera company Leicia has been around for a century and, to celebrate, the company is bringing out a new, all-aluminium mirrorless camera that was designed in conjunction with Audi. The camera, known only as the T, is constructed from a single block of aluminium that is hand-finished once the main machining has been completed.
So it has an attractively styled, solid body. But what goes inside is much more important and Leica have come prepared. The camera uses a 16 megapixel Sony APS-C sensor and, at the rear, there is a 3.5-inch touchscreen for various controls and it will have a mobile app that augments control of the camera to boot. The T comes with a selection of manual controls as well, 1080p video recording, and a continuous shooting mode of 5fps.
Unfortunately, you’re going to have to shell out a bit extra if you want to use other Leica lenses with the T, M-mount lenses will require an adapter before you can fit them but the company has some T lenses on the way as well.
A silver version of the T is expected by become available internationally by the end of May, while a black edition will launch some time before August. The price tag? The T’s body will apparently run you $1,850 (a little under R20,000) while the 18-56mm and 23mm lens kits will cost $1,750 (R18,650) a pop.
