A couple of weeks ago we posted about the OpenKnit, a machine that enables its users to manufacture their own clothing, and it seems that design tech company Cricut (Pronounced cricket) have taken the next logical step.
The company has unveiled their Explore machine that can cut designs from a wide assortment of crafting materials, including paper, chipboard, iron-ons, vinyl, felt and leather.
As can be seen from the video, the Explore is about the size and shape of a standard printer but it has a cutting blade in its innards in place of an ink-based collection of parts. The cutting module is fitted with a small precision blade that slices out the desired design.
The idea behind the Cricut Explore, according to the CEO, Ashish Aroroa is one “driven by the philosophy: How do we get from creation to inspiration? How do we make it easy for people to create?”
