Watch the Hennessey Venom GT top 430km/h on a space shuttle landing strip

This is the sort of speed that petrolheads can only dream of. The Hennessey Venom GT supercar, a 7-litre twin turbo V8, has narrowly beaten out the previous world land-speed record on a single run on NASA’s space shuttle landing strip. The vehicle hit a top speed of a smidge over 435km/h on its run, going from 0 to 300km/h in just 13.63 seconds and topping the previous best of of 434.3km/h set by a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport by a narrow margin.

Top Gear reports that the Venom GT will not be awarded a world record, despite edging out the current land speed record for a production car. The record requires that the vehicle makes two runs, something that NASA would not allow, and that there is a production run of 30 vehicles. The Venom GT will only have 29 cars in its production run.
