Microsoft unveiling Surface 2 on 23 September

Microsoft’s Surface tablet is due to become an uncle later this month as the software manufacturer is going to be taking the wraps off the Surface’s successor, the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, at an event in New York on 23 September.

Technology website The Verge has details on the upcoming Microsoft hardware, gleaned from sources “familiar with Microsoft’s plans” for the device. The Surface Pro 2 will reportedly pack in Intel’s new Haswell chips, along with a hefty 8GB of RAM. The power-saving Haswell processor is expected to add another two hours of battery life over Surface Pro 2’s first-generation relative.

The Surface 2 will be a similar device to the Surface RT, minus the RT tag, though it will be retaining Windows RT 8.1. Nvidia’s Tegra 4 SoC is expected to take over processing duties, a 1080p display is supposed to be in the works and a keyboard Power Cover will be launched for both the Surface 2 and the Pro 2 which will extend the battery life of the devices.
