EA details Battlefield 4 PC system requirements

Games are often judged by their console sales but when it comes to how good a title looks, the PC system requirements are the yardstick of choice. EA’s upcoming Battlefield 4 looks to be the first PC shooter in a while to really push what is required from PC gaming rigs, if the recently revealed recommended hardware is any indication.

The minimum system for DICE and EA’s shooter is still attainable for most gamers, calling for an AMD Athlon X2 (2.8GHz) or an Intel Core 2 Duo (2.4GHz) and 4GB of RAM. AMD’s Radeon HD 3870 and Nvidia’s 8800GT GPUs are as low as gamers can get and the game will require an insane 30GB of hard drive space. Given how large EA’s PC patches for Battlefield 3 wound up being, expect this total to rise soon after launch. The shooter will only support Windows Vista operating systems with Service Pack 2 or later.

It’s the recommended specs which might raise a few eyebrows. Windows 8’s 64-bit incarnation is top of the list for the OS requirements and a quad-core Intel or six-core AMD processor will be needed. A full 8GB of RAM will be needed to make Battlefield 4 sing the way that it should and 3GB of graphics memory, starting with the Radeon HD 7870 from AMD or Nvidia’s GTX 660, will complete the equation. This still isn’t pushing what PCs are capable of but it’s certain a step in the right direction.
