It has been available for a while but Stuff feels that you should take a second look at the CAT B15 smartphone. It fits quite well as a product from the company that builds huge hulking vehicles that tear up pretty much anything.
The B15’s sturdy aluminium body is encased in a toughened rubberised casing which has minimal openings, and according to the folks at CAT it can be dropped 1.8 metres and bounce back unharmed. The B15 is IP67 certified, meaning that it’s completely dustproof and is water resistant for up to 1 metre. The 4-inch screen supports wet finger tracking, for…when your finger is wet and you’d like to use the phone.
But it’s not just a tough cookie. The Android phone has a dual core 1GHz Cortex-A9 processor and 512MB of RAM, all running on 4.1 Jelly Bean, so it is can be called smart after all. It also comes with a 5 megapixel camera, the usual collection of Google apps and GPS navigation via Google Maps. It also has 4GB of internal memory that can be expanded to up to 32GB via microSD card.
The B15 will cost you R5,900 locally via Expansys. There has not been an official release of the rugged handset in South Africa just yet.
