Instagram jumps on Vine’s bandwagon with 15-second video clips

Facebook’s event, held yesterday at the company’s Menlo Park HQ, unveiled a new feature for Instagram. The feature itself isn’t new as Vine was the one which kicked off the trend of very short video clips but Instagram, Facebook’s biggest purchase, will be joining the micro-video crowd.

There will be some differences to Vine, of course. Instagram will offer users 15-second clips instead of 6-second shorts and users will be able to edit and use some 13 filters for their short presentations. Instagram videos will be supported in Instagram’s photo feed as well as Facebook, Android and iOS as well as the web in general. Oh, and the videos won’t loop the way that Vine’s do.

Instagram will also be rolling out a feature called Cinema, a video stabilisation function to support the new video option. Instagram’s video options should be active now on Instagram for both Android and iOS.
