There’s something you don’t see every day: A flying bicycle

Some technological innovations are logical extensions of an existing concept, others are slightly more off-the-wall combinations of existing tech. Case in point for the latter is the flying bicycle in the video below, the brainchild of three Czech companies.

The video shows the flying bicycle, which is presently controlled remotely and which has a dummy in the seat instead of an actual human, being tested in a Prague exhibition hall. The propellers that give it the ability to leave the ground are battery powered and the prototype is said to have enough juice to fly for five minutes or so.

Just what the applications are of such a marriage between ground and air are not immediately clear but it is a cool idea. That it actually works, despite not being powerful enough to carry a human passenger just yet, is even more impressive. Should this ever make it to the consumer sphere, there could be some interesting times at the next Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour.
