Highlights from Nintendo’s Nintendo Direct presentation

Nintendo’s Nintendo Direct conference, which took place yesterday, didn’t promise much immediate relief for Wii U owners but late 2013 and 2014 are showing some promise for Nintendo fans.

One of the better announcements was the development of a sequel to Wii-exclusive title Xenoblade Chronicles. The game doesn’t have a title just yet but Nintendo showed off some of the in-development gameplay for the game, which will see release next year.

Another anticipated title shown was Bayonetta 2, which will be releasing on the Wii U exclusively following the first game’s surprisingly warm reception on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Gameplay shown during the presention revealed that SEGA and Platinum Games have opted to keep the slick combo-based combat in place and that they have not pulled back from the lead character’s sexuality (or violence). An interesting reveal was the existence of a two-player mode, the details of which have yet to be explored by the developers.

Rayman Legends, which will be releasing in September this year with the Wii U as its lead platform, also got a look-in with all-new gameplay being featured during the Nintendo Direct event.

Of course, you can always bypass all the bits and pieces and watch the entire presentation, should you have 40 minutes to spare.
