BBM may be pre-installed on competing handsets

BlackBerry announced a short while back that the BlackBerry Messenger service (BBM) would be releasing for Android and iOS later on this year, now it appears that the Canadian company is looking to take that move one step further.

That step could take BlackBerry so far as to have the BBM service pre-installed on handsets that compete with BlackBerry’s hardware, something which is being explored by the company at present.

BlackBerry Chief Operating Officer Kristian Tear, speaking in an interview with website CNET, said of the possibility of preloaded BBM that “There is interest from other handset makers.” The extent to which BlackBerry’s competitors might be interested in playing host to BBM wasn’t elaborated on so the possibility might just be pie in the sky. However, it is conceivable that future Android or iOS devices might just come standard with BlackBerry Messenger at some point on the future.
