Vodacom launches International Calling Plus, discounts international calls by up to 88%

Vodacom has launched a new service called International Calling Plus, which allows Vodacom users to call “118 countries from as little as 89 cents per minute on per second billing”, resulting in savings of up to 88% for international chats. The service is due to go live from this Sunday, 26 May.

Phil Patel, Vodacom’s consumer business unit head, said in a statement “We tested the waters late last year with our 89c calling promotion to 52 countries. It proved so popular that we’ve added 3 new zones with additional countries priced at R1,19, R1,79 and R2,89 respectively and made it a permanent product available to all customers, whether Prepaid, Top-Up or Contract.”

There is a slight charge for the service, to the tune of R5 per month, and International Calling Plus can be activated by heading to the Buy Bundles and Services option after dialing *111# from a Vodacom handset. All international calls will be billed per-second and the discounted rates apply to both landlines and mobile phones, with no restrictions on the time of day that users call.
