Sony and Panasonic have both announced new additions to their compact camera lineups, Sony bringing in the Cyber-shot HX50V and Panasonic the Lumix DMC-LF1.
Sony’s HX50V features a 30x optical zoom Sony G lens (24-720mm 35mm equivalent), 20.4 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and built-in WiFi as well as support for Sony’s PlayMemories iOS and Android apps. It has a 3-inch display, which unfortunately not a touchscreen, Sony’s Optical SteadyShot, high speed autofocus and it can be controlled remotely with a tablet or smartphone in case you’d like to get into your own images. The HX50V also comes with a range of more advanced features that may keep camera buffs relatively happy with the little shooter’s capabilities.
Panasonic’s new addition, on the other hand, has a 7.1x optical zoom Lieca lens (28-200mm 35mm equivalent), 12 megapixel CMOS sensor and built-in WiFi with NFC support. Like Sony’s shooter images can be transferred to a mobile device via an app and the DMC-LF1 features an Optical Image Stabiliser (POWER O.I.S.) with “Active Mode [which] powerfully suppresses blur even in video recording.” It also features a 3-inch display and boasts AVCHD video recording.
Sony’s new compact camera is expected to cost $450 (R4,200) and Panasonic’s unit will run buyers around $500 (R4,600). Local pricing and availability are not available yet.
