XCOM: Enemy Unknown headed to iPad soon

Turn-based strategy title XCOM: Enemy Unknown is going to be making the jump to Apple’s iPad a little later on this year, bringing one of 2012’s best titles to a more mobile platform.

Unusually for a mobile version of a fully-fledged console or PC game, XCOM will be an almost complete port of the original title. The game’s lead developer Jake Solomon has pointed out that the only thing missing from the title will be some of the game’s maps but that “we still have all the destructible environments, there’s the fog of war — this is a full AAA game we’re porting. It really is XCOM.”

The game will implement touch controls, something that the turn-based style of the alien invasion title lends itself well to. It is likely to be a hefty download when it does release this ‘Summer’, some time in the middle of the South African year, and there has yet to be a price set for the title. It will be a premium-priced app, according to Polygon, so the price will be a few cuts above the standard iPad gaming app. And, if it is anything like the PC and console versions, it will be worth every cent.
