That escalated quickly: LG suspects Samsung’s Galaxy S 4 may infringe on their eye-tracking patents

LG suspects that Samsung’s just-revealed Galaxy S 4 handset may infringe on patents that the company holds, reports Korea-based news agency Yonhap News.

This might be a record for possible patent infringement claims between two competing companies as the S 4 was only made official late last week. LG has said that they applied for the patent for their Smart Video feature in 2009 and that they plan to check the S 4 to make sure that it doesn’t infringe. If the company believes that it does, they’ll probably institute legal action.

Samsung in turn have said that their Smart Pause feature, which does the exact same thing as LG’s Smart Video function, uses its own technology to pull off the similar effect. Looks like we have another conflict brewing in the ongoing patent wars.
