Google canning another 1200 jobs at Motorola Mobility

Google is going to be further reducing the work force at Motorola Mobility, axing some 1,200 jobs – around 10% of the staff – at the mobile division.

This follows a size reduction of about 20% of the staff at Google’s smartphone arm in August last year which saw 4,000 people being made redundant.

The cuts, according to Reuters who cited spokeswoman Niki Fenwick, “…are a continuation of the reductions we announced last summer. It’s obviously very hard for the employees concerned, and we are committed to helping them through this difficult transition.”

Workers in China, India and the United States are among those being laid off by the move.
