Twitter, American Express working on method to pay by tweet

Twitter and American Express are looking into a way to make it even easier to max out your credit card.

This will reportedly be achieved by allowing credit card owners who have linked their cards to their Twitter accounts to buy items being promoted on the micro-blogging service with a tweet.

Announced earlier this week, the deal could see a new revenue stream flowing into Twitter’s coffers. Neither American Express nor Twitter have commented on the financial arrangements between the companies but it is speculated that Twitter will be taking a cut from each sale. It is unknown whether Twitter will expand such a service to other companies but American Express is definitely attempting to broaden their reach.

Amex and Twitter have previously used the service to electronically redeem coupons when paying with an America Express credit card. Amex is said to have similar card-linking deals in the works with Foursquare, Facebook and Xbox Live.
