Zynga’s Farmville is getting its own TV show

Give social gaming company Zynga’s recent performance, which included reporting a loss for the last quarter, this can almost be filed under ‘What are they thinking?”

The Wall Street Journal reports that Prison Break and Rush Hour director Brett Ratner is creating a half-hour animated series based on Zynga property Farmville.

Ratner said in a statement “Farmville is one of the most exciting brands out there today and its cross-platform opportunities are endless. I am thrilled to be expanding the brand with existing fans and also engaging a whole new audience.”

Despite being a little late to the party as far as Farmville goes, given a recent decline in users, exactly how Ratner plans to translate the social game into a TV series is anyone’s guess. There is no word on whether you will have to invite a friend to watch each episode before it will show you the last five minutes of the show.
