Nokia announces subscription-based Nokia Music+

Nokia have unveiled Nokia Music+, a subscription-based addition to its current free-to-stream Nokia Music offering for Lumia device owners that adds extra features which could just justify the subscription fee.

For around R50 a month (€3.99) Nokia Music+ users will gain the ability to download and save an unlimited number of tracks for offline usage as well as the option of selecting higher quality audio playback when their device is connected via a WiFi network. Subscribers will also be able to make use of the Nokia Music service on alternative connected devices, such as a tablet or a PC. The standard Nokia Music for Lumia offering will continue in its current form, without advertising or the need to register or subscribe.

Nokia’s VP for Entertainment Jyrki Rosenberg said in a statement “By removing barriers like adverts and sign-ins, Nokia Music makes it easy for users to discover and enjoy music on the go. Nokia Music+ now provides increased control over the listening experience at half the cost of many third party services.”

Nokia expects to roll out the Nokia Music+ option in the first quarter of 2013. No firm date has yet been confirmed.
