Sony unveils new Cyber-shot variants

Sony has introduced several new additions to its Cyber-shot range of digital cameras at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the WX200, WX80 and WX60 models as well as the TF1, H200, W730 and W710 cameras.

Three of the new devices, the WX200, WX80 and WX60, use Sony’s Exmor R CMOS sensor, a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens (except in the case of the WX200 which has a Sony G Lens), and all feature Sony’s Optical SteadyShot,  Superior Auto, Wi-Fi, Beauty Effect, and Advanced Flash technologies. The WX series all shoot Full HD video and the WX200 is an 18.2 megapixel shooter (10x optical zoom) while the WX80 and WX60 both have 16.2 megapixel sensors (8x optical zoom). The WX200 and WX80 also feature WiFi.

The remaining cameras all use Super HAD CCD sensors of varying sizes, the H200 features a 20.1 megapixel sensor while the others all have 16.1 megapixel sensors. The H200 features a 26x optical zoom and is marketed towards more advanced users while the W710 is targeting novice photographers. The TF1, according to Sony, “shrugs off snow, sand, dust, freezing temperatures and total immersion at depths up to 10m” though Sony has a few caveats related to taking advantage of these features.

Tentative pricing for the three Cyber-shot WX-series cameras has been put at R3,499 (WX200), R1,999 (WX80) and R1,799 (WX60).
