Last week of 2012 saw 1.76 billion app downloads

The final week of 2012 was a bumper week for app downloads, according to data released by Flurry Analytics. Combined downloads of apps for both Android and iOS devices for the last seven days of last year racked up an extremely impressive 1.76 billion downloads worldwide.

Flurry said that “the last week of 2012 was the largest week for both new device activations and app downloads in iOS and Android history”, with some 17.4 million Apple and Android devices being activated on 25 December. On the same day, 328 million apps were downloaded. When looking at the week starting from 25 December 2012, the closing days of the year saw more than 50 million Android and iOS devices activated.

Leading the countries (by far) in terms of downloads is the USA, followed by China and then the UK. China’s position on the list is somewhat unusual since only a minor percentage of Chinese citizens celebrate the Christmas holiday that is the driving factor for much of the record-breaking download and activation numbers.
