Google’s standalone Google Maps app for iPhone has shot up to the top of Apple’s App Store free apps chart, according to app analytics website App Annie.
The recently-returned Google app has managed to gain a 4.5 star rating on the App Store since yesterday’s launch, a feat that is all the more impressive considering the average is taken from more than 16,000 reviews of the software.
Google Maps returned to the iPhone following the poor performance of Apple’s own Maps application, which was rolled out with iOS 6. Google has since also released an SDK designed to help app developers insert Google Maps into other applications.
