iTunes launches in South Africa, songs priced locally from R6.99

Apple announced today the launch of iTunes  in 56 new countries, including South Africa. Movies will also be available for four new countries but, unfortunately, South Africa is not among these.

There are over 20 million tracks available from iTunes, though it is not immediately clear how much of the service’s library South Africa has access to. Local as well as international artists will be represented in the product lineup.

Tracks on the iTunes store will be priced from R6.99 each. Prices for full albums will differ from offering to offering and users will be able to preview 90 seconds of tracks that they wish to buy.

The iTunes Match service is also on offer for South African audiences, allowing users to store their music library in the cloud for use on any iOS device. iTunes Match is priced at R199.99 a year.
