Mexican court orders Yahoo to pay $2.7 billion

Yahoo has revealed in a statement that the 49th Civil Court of the Federal District of Mexico City has ordered Yahoo Inc. and Yahoo Mexico to pay $2.7 billion in a lawsuit that was brought by two Mexican plaintiffs.

The case, brought by Worldwide Directories SA de CV and Ideas Interactivas SA de CV, alleges that there has been “breach of contract, breach of promise, and lost profits arising from contracts related to a yellow pages listings service.” Last week’s judgement in the lawsuit is not final, according to Yahoo.

Yahoo’s statement says that the company believes that “the plaintiffs’ claims are without merit and will vigorously pursue all appeals”, an understandable move considering the amount that the Mexico court has awarded the two companies.
