Facebook is in talks with mobile messaging app Whatsapp regarding a possible acquisition reports Tech Crunch, citing unnamed sources “close to the matter.”
Details are thin regarding how far along the apparent talks are and there is nothing available concerning a possible price for the messaging service but an acquisition by Facebook would make sense for the company.
Whatsapp has a wide base of users across most countries, sending over 1 billion messages a day, and having the paid app in their pocket could help Facebook further extend its reach in the social media sphere, particularly with regards to mobile when the company’s efforts have been heavily focused of late.
Both Whatsapp and Facebook have been approached for comment but have yet to respond.
