Raspberry Pi mini-PC adds a camera, Minecraft

The UK-made Raspberry Pi low-cost computer, which was originally intended as a cheap alternative PC for underprivileged areas, will soon be adding a cheap, 5 megapixel camera to the hardware available for the Linux-powered PC.

The $35 (R310) PC will see the addition of a camera board, which will sell for $25 (R220) when the hardware and mounting has been finalised. The camera will be capable of 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second, will connect to the main Raspberry Pi board via unused CSI pins and should open up a new range of applications for the tiny computer. A display board is also in the works and will be shipping after the camera is available. The video detailing the camera prototype is below.

The Raspberry Pi will also be getting a port of block-based creation game Minecraft, revealed at the Minecon event in Paris. When Minecraft: Pi Edition launches it will be available as a free download for the system.
