Digital versions of DC comics now on Kindle, iPad, Nook

DC Comics have announced that digital versions of their entire range of comic books, including Vertigo titles, are now available in digital format on the Kindle Store, NOOK Store and iBookstore.

Previously the publisher’s comic book titles were available through DC’s official app or through a third party like comiXology but the new digital versions, which will be available online on the same day that they are released on stores, will now also be making use of the ebook format across the three stores. Each store will have a different sort of DRM attached to it, the disadvantage being that buyers will be restricted to a single device if they opt to buy them from Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Apple.

Jim Lee, co-publisher at DC Entertainment, said in a statement “As e-readers and tablets continue to explode in popularity it’s important for us to offer consumers convenience and choice in how they download digital comics and graphic novels and these new distribution deals with the top three e-bookstores do just that.”
