ISS trip complete, SpaceX Dragon capsule slashes down

Commercial space flight company SpaceX’s first official trip to the International Space Station (ISS) has come to a successful conclusion. The Dragon capsule yesterday splashed down in the Pacific Ocean, bringing the two week long trip to a close.

The first of twelve missions that SpaceX is contracted to perform, the mission saw the Dragon capsule depart the ISS yesterday with over 1,600 pounds of cargo (around 725kg) for the return to Earth.

The SpaceX mission saw the Dragon spacecraft lifted aloft by the Falcon9 launch vehicle, carrying 454 kg of cargo to the ISS. The capsule gained a bit of weight for the trip back home. Unfortunately there is no footage of the landing but NASA has released a video of the Dragon’s separation from the ISS.
