Nokia launches Asha 306, 311 handsets in South Africa

Nokia has launched two new phones for South Africa, the Asha 306 and Asha 311 handsets, both of which are primarily focused on entertainment.

This has been made obvious through the range of 40  Electronic Arts games bundled for download with both phones. The mobile versions of EA titles like Need for Speed: The Run, FIFA 12 and Bejeweled are available with either handset, in addition the Asha 311 ships with fifteen levels from Rovio’s hit mobile title Angry Birds pre-loaded.

The more lightweight of the pair in terms of hardware is the Asha 306, which features a 240 x 400 WQVGA TFT resistive touchscreen display and comes standard with a 2GB microSD memory card (which can be switched out for up to 32GB of storage) for make up for the very minor internal storage options. Support for 802.11 b/g WiFi is included.

The Asha 311 features the same display, a 1GHz processor, slightly expanded internal storage and also ups the WiFi support to to 802.11 b/g/n. It packs in a 3.15 megapixel camera, an improvement over the 306’s 2 MP offering, and both devices use the new Nokia Browser 2.0, which promises reduced data consumption for users.

Nokia has given the estimated local retail pricing for the handsets as R999 for the Asha 306 and R1599 for the Asha 311.
