Microsoft planning on making more hardware – Ballmer

Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer, speaking to the BBC, has confirmed ahead of the Microsoft Surface launch, which is a bare day away, that Microsoft will keep on making hardware .

Surface will be releasing along with Windows 8 and there will likely be other announcements from the company at tomorrow’s event in New York. Though there are no sales yet to judge from, Ballmer has stated that Microsoft plans on sticking with making new hardware for the company.

“Is it fair to say we’re going to do more hardware? Obviously we are… Where we see important opportunities to set a new standard, yeah we’ll dive in.”

Several companies have been worried that Microsoft’s foray into the world of hardware might jeopardise their partnerships with the company, which has traditionally dealt in software and left the hardware up to others. Some, like Acer, have gone so far as to say that Microsoft’s attempt at hardware is only temporary so the news that Redmond may be sticking around in the market may be cause for a few more grey hairs.
