According to a report from Patently Apple the Cupertino company is now the owner of the Beatles’ Apple Corps logo. This information was disclosed by the Canadian IP Office yesterday. The Canadian IP Office stated that the Beatles’ record label logo is now a registered trademark of Apple Inc.
Previously there were trademark issues between the British rock group’s record label and Apple, but a settlement was reached between the two groups in February 2007 that would allow Apple to retain the Apple trademark while licensing some of them back to Apple Corps.
At the time of the settlement Steve Jobs said “We love the Beatles, and it has been painful being at odds with them over these trademarks. It feels great to resolve this in a positive manner, and in a way that should remove the potential of further disagreements in the future.”
There was some opposition to Apple Inc. owning the logo, which was being contested by a company called Apple Box Productions Sub Inc.. The opposition was unsuccessful and the Canadian IP Office’s database now shows that Apple was granted the trademark on 24 October 2012.
