IT research company Gartner said yesterday, during the firm’s Symposium and ITxpo in Orlando, that they expect spending in the IT sector to pass by the $3.7 billion mark in 2013.
The company said something similar earlier this year, though they have revised the number upwards by about $100 billion or so with yesterday’s statement. But that isn’t all that the research firm is expecting to happen in the world of IT.
Gartner’s global head of research Peter Sondergaard said that “By 2015, 4.4 million IT jobs globally will be created to support big data, generating 1.9 million IT jobs in the United States. In addition, every big data-related role in the U.S. will create employment for three people outside of IT, so over the next four years a total of 6 million jobs in the U.S. will be generated by the information economy.”
There are several other forecasts from Gartner, including the prediction there will have been over 1.6 billion “smart mobile devices” sold by 2016 and that Apple’s iPad will overtake BlackBerry devices as a business tool in under two years. Social computing will be on the rise over the next three years, according to Sondergaard, “…changing the fundamentals of management: how you establish a sense of purpose and motivate people to act. Social computing will move organizations from hierarchical structures and defined teams to communities that can cross any organizational boundary.”
