Samsung’s Galaxy S III Mini scales down in more ways than one

Samsung’s Galaxy S III Mini has been revealed and there are finally more stat available than just the shrinking screen size.

Unfortunately the display is not the only thing that has been hit with the shrink ray. Almost all of the handset’s features have been scaled down, with the display’s resolution dropping from 1280 x 720 to 800 x 480 along with the dip in screen acreage.

The Mini’s processor has slid from from a 1.5GHz dual-core unit to a 1GHz dual core CPU, while the camera has dropped from the Galaxy S III’s 8 and 1.6 megapixel rear and front cameras to a 5 megapixel and VGA option respectively.

The only place where the S III Mini outshines its larger brother is with the OS, which is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, something that full-spec S III owners have yet to see.

Samsung has said that the Mini is designed for consumers looking for a more “practical” handset but it is a pity that they saw the need to gut the S III’s hardware for the smaller phone. Pricing and availability has not been announced yet for the S III Mini.
