Google, Motorola Mobility acquire imaging and gesture recognition company Viewdle

Google and Motorola Mobility were previously thought to be in talks to acquire imaging and gesture recognition firm Viewdle, something that Motorola Mobility has now confirmed via an official statement.

Viewdle makes augmented reality and facial recognition software that “…realize the full potential of the many advanced consumer devices that are now on the market”, according to the company’s website. Motorola’s statement below makes it clear that this deal has been in the works for a while.

Motorola Mobility today announced that it has acquired Viewdle, a leading imaging & gesture recognition company. Motorola and Viewdle have an existing commercial agreement and have been collaborating for some time. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.”

Google has previously bought two similar startups, facial recognition company PittPatt in 2011 and biometrics company Neven Vision in 2006.
